What type of Unix terminal emulation software does everyone recommend? It needs to be able to run on Windows 2000 Server, 98, 95, XP, and Citrix Terminal Server. Also, it needs to be customizable so that it can run macros. We have looked at Teemtalk by Pericom and myExtra by Attachmate, but haven't been sold on either. Any thoughts? Thanks.
The best emulator is PowerTerm by ericom software http://ericom.com
This software is avaiable on ALL platform (include Mac, WinCE/Pocket, etc.)
I use it to connect VMS server and it works very very fine!
You can also use script to automatize some operation.
Check out netterm. It's fairly inexpensive (we paid $10 a seat 10 years ago) and emulates vt220 well.
Not sure of the web site to go.
I second Netterm. site is http://www.netterm.com
price ranges from $29.95 to $8.95US per licence depending on volume.
There is also a secure version (quite a bit more expensive) if you want to use for ssh. It's Highly configurable and reliable we have been using it for about 5 years.
You can download an eval version which is fully functional.
Reflection by WRQ is a very good one, although they are a bit pricy. Check it out at http://www.wrq.com
WRQ's product offering is quite extensive. They have thick client emulators (where all the code resides on the PC) for VT-series as well as the best HP terminal emulator ever written. For HP-UX, the Reflection for HP product offers both HP and VT capability. The also have IBM and VMS versions.
For thin clients, they offer the same emulation from a web server and also Reflection/X which is an Xwindow emulator. They have been shipping emulators since the early 1980's. The current version is 11.
WRQ's Reflection is one of the top products I think, but has a price tag.
Silicon Circus' PenguiNet is a lot cheaper (+-25$), nice to work with and supports SSH. (free trial on their website available)
we use Reflection and Smarterm
Recently discovered "puTTY", I have used it for two weeks and looks fine. I don't know whether it's what you are looking for, but perhaps you want to give it a try. It's free.
http://www.putty.nl/download.html
We use exceed Hummingbird, it comes with a secure client package (pay extra)
We also use attactmate, but have a problem with the secure shell client, only supports ssh1 protocol so far. They are working on it.
I know attachmate is great for macros, as well as host explorer in exceed.
I use putty53, but macros are a no go with putty.
Its old but very good, Tera Term http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html. Its small, can run from a diskette and has just about all the features you would need. Check it out.
I'm the second voice for TeraTerm.
It works very well.
Also you can try SecureCRT v.3.2
Stay away from KeaX!......
